The history of Central Casting is very much the history of background acting in that both Central Casting and background actors, or "extras", have been around nearly as long as the film industry itself. The first films date back to the early 1890�s and they were mostly unedited, slice-of-life, documentary style films that showed regular people doing everyday things. Though they weren�t touted as such, these regular people were the very first background actors.

Central Casting New York has an exciting announcement!
Starting Monday November 30, CCNY will now be casting for Law & Order: SVU!
We have updated our software so that our talent can more effectively communicate with us and submit for work. You also will be able to update your file and view all of our postings online and on your mobile device. To log in and take advantage of these new capabilities, you must be assigned a username and password.

After we verify your identity, we will send an email including your username and password, along with instructions on how to get started. Once logged in, please update your profiles immediately with the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Note that our work lines will still operate as normal, and we do encourage you to use them as well.
Currently we are using this software only in our New York office.
We look forward to launching this software in our Los Angeles office in 2009.
